[2026]
This very first volume on Brutalism in Brussels explores this architectural movement, which flourished globally in the 1950s and 1960s, and began to decline by the late 1970s for several reasons. Though Brutalism is often reduced to concrete (unfortunately), it is far more complex and layered. It’s not a style, it’s an ideology (which is often overlooked in many publications).
This book gives a wide overview of the diversity of Brutalism in Brussels: office buildings, housing, university campuses, hospitals, cultural centres, churches, underground stations and even works by artists.
